Zusammenfassung
Die Zahl der Untersuchungen über Proteohormone, die sich der Indicator-methode bedienen, ist sehr gering. Dies liegt in der Natur der Sache : Die Methode beweist ihre Leistungsfähigkeit in der dynamischen Biochemie, beim Studium des Auf- und Abbaus körpereigener Stoffe. Die Biochemie der Proteohormone, besonders der Hypophysenhormone, ist noch deskriptiv : Die bemerkenswertesten Fortschritte der letzten Jahre sind die Reindarstellung und Konstitutionsermittlung dieser Proteine. Radioaktiv markierte Proteohormone wären willkommene Hilfsmittel zum Studium ihrer Verteilung im Organismus, der Anhäufung in verschiedenen Organen, der Wirkungsweise und der Inaktivierung und des Abbaus. Da eine chemische Synthese auch der einfacheren, wie Insulin oder Corticotropin, noch außerhalb des Bereiches unserer chemischen Möglichkeiten liegt, ist man bisher auf die Umsetzung mit J131 oder S35 angewiesen. Diese chemisch veränderten Hormone können nur mit Vorbehalten für solche Untersuchungen herangezogen werden (vgl. dazu Sonenberg und Money 1955); die bisherigen Ergebnisse werden nach der Besprechung der Biosynthese in Abschnitt 3 abgehandelt.
