Diagnostic significance of humoral factors in renovascular hypertension

  • Chapter
Antihypertensive Therapy

Abstract

The availability of aortography and renal angiography in many medical centres throughout the world makes it possible to obtain precise evidence of the presence or absence of renovascular lesions. Thanks to these aids, earlier necropsy findings in man reported by Blackman, showing a relationship between partial obstruction of the main renal arteries and hypertension, have been confirmed in many living hypertensive patients (1). But the presence of such renovascular obstructive lesions, whatever their nature, does not indicate per se that such lesions are the cause of the hypertensive process in a given patient.
