Zusammenfassung

Die Behandlung der arteriellen Hypertonie durch strengen Kochsalzentzug erweist sich zwar als äußerst wirkungsvoll, jedoch ist diese Maßnahme auf die Dauer erfahrungsgemäß nur schwer durchzuführen. Es lag daher nahe, durch Anwendung von Diuretica, bei denen es sich definitionsgemäß (Pitts) um Substanzen handelt, die primär zu einer vermehrten Ausscheidung von Natrium und Chlorid bzw. Bicarbonat mit dem Urin führen (erst sekundär kommt es zu einer gesteigerten Wasserausscheidung), über rein diätetische Maßnahmen hinaus die Kochsalzausscheidung zu fördern. Die bisherigen Erfahrungen bei der Behandlung der Hypertonie mit diuretisch wirkenden Substanzen sollen im folgenden kurz zusammenfassend dargestellt werden.
