Part of the book series: Lecture Notes in Economics and Mathematical Systems ((LNE,volume 335))

Abstract

A researcher in the field of decision-aiding must work on real problems in real environments. Ideas about what may help managers can come from logical argument, from hunches, and from past experience. However, whatever theories or near-theories are set up, they are no more than hypotheses, however compelling, until they are tested in action and their power to influence is understood. It is a difficult task and progress is inevitably slow.
