Abstract
Following a group exercise to rank projects on a multi-attribute basis using the AHP in a particular area of pharmaceutical research, the work has been extended using MAUA to cover several different aspects
-
a)
the setting of target completion dates for the four stages in research which are used as ‘milestones’ for monitoring progress
-
b)
the regular review of weighted scores of attributes which are used to assess the need for management action e.g. reallocation of effort, project termination
-
c)
with experience the generation of standard times for stages which will be used to make better forecasts of when compounds will be entering drug development
-
d)
reduction of ambiguity by using structured attributes and detailed word models of the value-scales
This study describes the various stages of the model development and how the system is used to monitor and control research projects in the R & D environment of a large pharmaceutical company.
