Abstract
In this chapter we shall investigate the case of two joined crystals of the same kind, but slightly rotated with respect to one another. In this context, the word “slightly” means that the two crystals are practically in register over areas which are large compared to the unit cell, and that only occasional corrections are needed in the form of dislocations. Such a boundary, consisting of a network of discrete dislocations, is termed a “subgrain boundary”.
