Zusammenfassung

Noch vor wenigen Jahren endete die präoperative endoskopische Dickdarmdiagnostik im unteren Sigma. Die Anatomie dieses Darmsegmentes setzte dem weiteren Vordringen mit starren Recto-Sigmoidoskopen eine natürliche Grenze. Die Röntgenuntersuchung war neben der Anamnese vielfach die einzige diagnostische Hilfe, und deren Ergebnis bestimmte somit weitgehend das therapeutische Handeln, konnte oder wollte man sich zu einem operativen Vorgehen nicht entschließen. Der alte Wunsch, auch die proximalen Dickdarmabschnitte unblutig zu inspizieren, konnte erst erfüllt werden, als von der Industrie geeignete vollflexible Glasfaser-Endoskope angeboten wurden. Das erste Fibercoloskop wurde 1964 in Japan entwickelt und die Ergebnisse erstmalig anläßlich des 1. Kongresses der Internationalen Gesellschaft für Endoskopie 1966 in Tokio mitgeteilt.
