Abstract

As mentioned in Chapter 2, there is no direct effect of the π-MO’s on the Fermi contact term since this expression includes only s-eigenvectors. Nevertheless there are two mechanisms by which π-orbitals can influence J(A,B):

  1. a)

    a direct contribution via spin-dipolar and orbital-mechanisms.

  2. b)

an indirect mechanism via changing s-eigenvectors in the MO’s of molecules of low symmetry for which a clean π-σ-separation is not possible.
