Abstract
Individual states are free to employ the satellite frequencies assigned to them at the 1977 and 1979 wavelength conferences as they wish. Since the programmes broadcast via satellite are to be financed entirely or mainly from the proceeds of advertising, competition has already started to commence satellite transmission at the earliest possible date. Switzerland, Luxembourg and France are more or less openly competing here and the Germans have fallen about one or two years behind these countries in their technical and practical planning in regard to the use of radio and television satellites.
