Abstract
The acute catabolic state represents a major metabolic challenge to the organism. In recent decades major progress has been achieved in understanding the underlying processes which control these changes. There has also been a tremendous increase in the knowledge of nutritional needs and ways of supporting these demands in the diseased states.
