Abstract
Increasingly we understand that economic gains in a sector depend upon performance throughout the value chain. And value chain performance depends on the coordination of functions, organizational boundaries, and managerial limits that interrelate with system behavior. The process by which firms coordinate activities in a value chain has been widely analyzed and reported upon, not only for agriculture, but throughout the business management literature (Cloutier and Sonka, 1996). Much less attention, however, has been directed to the dynamic determinants of function coordination performance over time.
