Coupling of Vibrational and Electronic Energy Distributions in Discharge and Post-Discharge Conditions

Abstract

This chapter deals with some coupled problems in nonequilibrium vibrational kinetics. By coupled problems, we mean those in which the vibrational distribution N of the ground electronic state of a diatomic molecule affects other components of a molecular discharge or of an infrared-laser-pumped system. Strictly speaking, we have already discussed some coupled problems, for example, dissociation and ionization, in Chap.2. In the present chapter, particular emphasis will be given to
  1. a)

    the coupling between NV and the electron energy distribution function (edf) of free electrons in both discharge and post-discharge conditions, and

     
  2. b)

    the coupling between NV and the vibrational distribution of electronically excited states N V * .
