Abstract
Siemens is one of the leading companies in the electrical engineering and electronics sector. Future company growth will depend largely on innovations, developed within and across the eight business segments, leading to our aspiration „Siemens ¡ª the power of new ideas “. Innovation offers us the strategic opportunity of achieving superior prices and time advantages. Innovations create first-mover advantages through rapidly achieved learning curve effects and the differentiation potential is a guarantor of better prices. Innovations can be developed within a systematic process, integrating the complementary approaches of extrapolatory multigenerational product planning and product and business development based on strategic visioning. At Siemens innovations are organized in cooperation between central competence centers for key technologies and group-related innovation programs. Cross-group innovations are organized in „white space” projects which are centrally coordinated and funded. In the future innovative organizations will have a network structure. The flexible bundling of competencies to virtual companies within these network structures will become the organizing principle of knowledge-based companies.
