Summary

A collapse of tumor perfusion after a single application of shock waves was observed. The therapeutic effect of repeated shock wave treatment was studied. Amelanotic hamster melanomas (Ø 5 mm) were treated with shock waves on the centre and the margins of the tumor at 3 h intervals. In a second group of animals the tumor was removed surgically. A third group served as control. Eighty-five percent of the shock wave treated animals and 100% of the surgically treated animals remained locally recurrence free. In both groups 30% remained completely tumorfree after treatment. Metastasis developed in 70% in both groups. In all controls the tumor continued to grow and developed metastasis. Shock waves and surgical treatment were equally successful.

Zusammenfassung

In früheren Untersuchungen konnten wir an Tumoren nach einmaliger Stoßwellenapplikation einen Zusammenbruch der Perfusion nachweisen. Wir untersuchten den therapeutischen Effekt einer fraktionierten Stoßwellenapplikation. Amelanotische Hamstermelanome (Ø 5 mm) erhielten Stoßwellen im 3-h-Abstand auf Tumorzentrum und Tumorrand. Bei einer zweiten Gruppe wurde der Tumor reseziert. Eine dritte Gruppe dient als Kontrolle. 85% der stoßwellentherapierten Tiere und 100% der chirurgisch therapierten Tiere blieben lokalrezidivfrei. 30% blieben in beiden Gruppen völlig tumorfrei. Metastasen traten bei jeweils 70% auf. In 100% der Kontrolltiere wuchs und metastierte der Tumor. Stoßwellentherapie und Chirurgie waren gleichermaßen erfolgreich.
