Bis zum Alter von 15 Jahren erkrankt von 2 500 bis 5 000 Kindern eines an Diabetes mellitus. Der kindliche Diabetes macht also nur einen sehr geringen Prozentsatz (1–2%) aller Diabetiker aus.
