Praktische Erfahrungen mit Propellern, die bei Kavitation arbeiten

Zusammenfassung

Bei den Meilenfahrten, die mit dem englischen Torpedoboot „Daring“ zu Ende des vorigen Jahrhunderts ausgeführt worden sind, ist man zum ersten Male auf die Kavitationserscheinung bei Schiffspropellern aufmerksam geworden und es haben schon die bei diesem Schiff erprobten Propeller klar ergeben, daß man möglichst breite Schraubenflügel zu wählen hat, damit die Propeller nach Kavitationseintritt noch eine genügende Schubkraft bei erträglichem Wirkungsgrad erzeugen.

Abstract

To determine the incidence of cavitation from ship trial data values of log V_e/nD are plotted to a base of log SHP /ρD⁵n³. The corresponding values of log V_e/nD obtained from the Schaffran model propeller data are plotted in the same diagram. Figs 1 and 2 show the type of diagram used and give the results of the „Daring“ trials for the first unsuccessful screws and for the sixth, successful screws. The full lines show the ship results whilst the dotted show the model results. The location and extension of the model curve is determined by the wake found at low powers. The ship curve shows a sharp bifurcation when cavitation sets in.
