Excited States of Polyenes Studied by Time-Resolved Resonance Raman Spectroscopy

  • Conference paper

Part of the book series: Springer Proceedings in Physics ((SPPHY,volume 4))

Abstract

After the first publication of a triplet state resonance Raman spectrum (1) we have during the past years studied the spectra of polyenes excited into their short-lived lowest triplet (2–9, 11,12) and recently lowest excited singlet (10) state. Among the systems studied are various carotenoids (2–5), retinal isomers (6–8), diphenylbutadiene (9,10) and recently trienes (11,12). In the present paper we present ground state Raman spectra of all-trans-1,3,5-heptatriene (heptatriene) and all-trans-2,4,6-octatriene (octatriene), and time-resolved resonance Raman spectra of the lowest excited triplet states of trans-1,3,5-hexatriene (hexatriene), heptatriene, and octatriene.
