Zusammenfassung

Die Verwendung von künstlichen Organen in Form der Beinprothese oder brillenartiger Gläser als Lesehilfe kennen wir bereits seit dem Altertum. Die Verwendung von künstlichen Organen in der inneren Medizin ist jüngeren Datums. Als ein geradezu ideales Gerät hat sich hier der elektrische Schrittmacher bewährt, mit dem Hunderttausende in der Welt heute bereits ein lebenswertes Leben lange über die Periode hinaus führen können, die früher wegen Herzstillstand ihr Leben beendet hätte.
