Zusammenfassung

Vor 120 Jahren schrieb J. N. Nussbaum (1853) in der Nr. 324 der Zeitschrift: „Deutsche Klinik“, daß Himly die großartige Idee gehabt habe, bei Menschen, deren Hornhaut undurchsichtig ist, „die verdunkelnde Hornhaut auszuschneiden und dafür ein gleichgroßes, das von einem gesunden Thiere oder amaurotischen Menschen genommen ist, einzuheilen“ 1. Er weiß zu berichten, daß der Lorbeer-Kranz für ein Gelingen sauer verdient wäre, denn das eingeheilte Stück Cornea würde bald so trübe wie die Cornea zuvor und hierdurch -nämlich die Transplantation - „gewiß nur jene Momente begünstigt werden, die oft den Grund zu Hornhauttrübungen legen“. Die Keratoplastik hat in den vergangenen Jahrzehnten durch Asepsis, Antibiotika, Immunsuppressiva und Mikrochirurgie ausgezeichnete Fortschritte gezeigt.
