Zusammenfassung
Nachdem von Brown-Séquard und d’Arsonval im Jahre 1892 mitgeteilt worden war, daß auf Grund ihrer Experimente angenommen werden müsse, daß die Niere nicht nur als Exkretionsorgan, sondern außerdem durch eine „innere Sekretion“ die Vorgänge im Körper mächtig beeinflusse, haben Tigerstedt u. Bergman in den folgenden Jahren nach ihren Angaben wegen „des nahen Zusammenhanges zwischen gewissen Nieren- und Herzkrankheiten“ zu klären versucht, ob „aus den Nieren irgendwelche Substanzen erhalten werden können, welche die Kreislauforgane beeinflussen“. Daß sie im Rahmen dieser Untersuchungen in der Nierenrinde des Kaninchens im Jahre 1898 eine blutdrucksteigernde Substanz entdeckten, die sie „der Kürze halber“ Renin nannten, ist Jahrzehnte in Vergessenheit geraten.
