Zusammenfassung
Die empirische Literatur der Industrieökonomik hat ein ziemlich überraschendes Ergebnis hervorgebracht: Offensichtlich lassen sich neugegründete Unternehmen nicht wesentlich von Markteintritten in Wirtschaftszweige abschrecken, in denen Kapitalintensität und Größenvorteile, also Skalenerträge, eine bedeutende Rolle spielen. Eine Reihe von Studien haben festgestellt, daß selbst kleinere Unternehmen nicht davon abgehalten werden, in Branchen mit relativ hoher Kapitalintensität einzutreten (AUDRETSCH, 1995). Dies wirft einige grundsätzliche Fragen über den spezifischen Charakter brancheninternen Strukturwandels auf: Welche Entwicklung durchlaufen Unternehmen, nachdem sie in eine Branche eingetreten sind? Und wie sichern sie ihr Überleben?
