Information Technologies Promoting Structural Change

  • Conference paper
Herausforderungen für die Informationstechnik

Part of the book series: Technik, Wirtschaft und Politik ((TECH.WIRTSCHAFT,volume 7))

Abstract

Information (and communication) technology have been recognized for a long time now as providing a substantial potential for increased growth and productivity. Many studies, going back to the late 70’s have tried to estimate that potential and likely impact on employment growth and displacement, and have all pointed towards the size of this potential. Terms such as the emergence of an information technology “revolution”, a new technological paradigm, etc. have been suggested by many authors — some of which are present at this Conference — to highlight the radical and pervasive nature of information technology.
