Standardizing Multidimensional Space for Dual Scaling

Abstract

In dual scaling and multiple correspondence analysis, the total contribution of each variable is inversely related to its marginal distribution, which can be understood as due to the removal of a trivial solution. This study examines effects of standardizing the contribution of each variable on the outcome of dual scaling and shows important implications for quantification of categorical data, in particular, for graphical display of quantified results.

Zusammenfassung

In der Dual Scaling und der Multiple Correspondence Analyse steht der Gesamtbeitrag jeder Variablen im umgekehrten Verhältnis zu ihrer Randverteilung, was durch den Abzug eines bedeutungslosen Ergebnisses erklärt werden kann. Diese Forschungsstudie untersucht die Auswirkung von Standardisierungen der Beiträge jeder Variablen in Bezug auf das durch Dual Scaling erreichte Ergebnis und weist auf wichtige Folgerungen zur Quantifizierung von kategorisch angelegten Daten, insbesondere solche, die der grafischen Darstellung von Quantitätsergebnissen dienen.
