Zusammenfassung
Mit den verschiedenen Möglichkeiten der maschinellen Unterstützung der Spontanatmung - auch augmentierte Spontanatmung genannt - haben sich Veränderungen in der Nomenklatur und Systematik der Beatmungstechniken ergeben. Danach kann grundsatzlich zwischen partieller oder totaler Unterstiitzung der Atmung unterschieden werden. Die partielle Unterstiitzung („partial ventilatory support“, PVS) umfaßt alle Methoden, die in Verbindung mit Spontanatmung verwendet werden, die völlige oder totale Unterstützung der Atmung („total ventilatory support“, TVS) hingegen beinhaltet alle Formen kontrollierter Beatmung.
