Abstract
We investigate experimentally the temporal evolution of laserpulses transmitted or reflected by CdS single crystal platelets or edge filters at different excitation intensities and pulse lengths. CdS is found to show different types of optical bistability (o.B.) depending on the spectral position ћωexc, length τL and intensity Iq of the incident pulses. The behaviour of commercial edge filters containing small grains of CdSl−xSex is discussed, too.
