Abstract
Local initiatives undertaken by entrepreneurs require a wide variety of actions. To conduct a business enterprise implies first of all scanning the market for chances. The next thing is to accurately identify the ensuring problems, to look for and to find solutions and — on that basis — to act. Consequently, to conduct a business means to be informed and to permanently gather information. Developments within the company must be monitored on the basis of continuous records of the turnover, the clients, the staff, the cost factors, etc. Besides, there must be external information on the competitors, developments within the various levels of government, the objectives of trade unions, and so forth. It is also essential to be information well ahead of sudden events. A monetary crisis is a case in point, but so are abrupt changes with customers or licence issuing government agencies.
