Fermentation Processes for Microbial SCP Production

  • Chapter
Single Cell Protein

Part of the book series: Biotechnology Monographs ((BIOTECHNOLOGY,volume 1))

Abstract

An understanding of the relationship between organism and environment is a prerequisite for the ability to design the process conditions inside the fermentor which give high productivity combined with a high carbon conversion and a good product composition. This understanding is also needed for reliable design of any type of fermentor, and to “tailor” that fermentor to best match the economic conditions prevailing for an overall SCP plant design [461].
