Abstract
The selection of an appropriate value of the threshold energy, Eo has long been recognized as an important and somewhat difficult problem which must be confronted when analyzing EXAFS data. Numerous methods for selecting Eo have been proposed over the last decade (see [1–4] for example). In this paper we emphasize that the assumptions made in justifying most of these methods are invalid in cases where the material under consideration has an asymmetric distribution function. In particular, the practice of treating Eo as a free parameter has been found to be inappropriate for such systems.
