Abstract

The natural foci of tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) occur in Central Europe in different ecosystems, which are more or less influenced by human activity. The original climax communities of oak tier (xerophilic to mesophilic oak and mixed oak forest types) have been changed into pastures, meadows, cultivated steppe, forest-steppe, black locust forests, and spruce forests. The original character of plant communities occurring in natural foci has been best preserved in the Carpathian subregion.
