Abstract
C-factors by their very nature must carry one or more structural genes for the colicin protein, and presumably carry genes involved in regulating colicin biosynthesis. They may also carry genes concerned with such functions as replication of the epichromosome itself and its transfer to other organisms. We do not know as yet what significance to attach to the observation that the genes for colicinogeny are often carried on an epichromosome; however, since the control of colicin synthesis seems to interact with the control of other C-factor properties, we will have to consider these other properties.
