Die schwere Thyreotoxikose und ihre akute Steigerung zur toxischen Krise gehören auch heute noch zu den Erkrankungen mit hohem Risiko: die Mortalität wird in der Literatur z. Z. mit 20–50% angegeben; die unbehandelten Krisen führen ausnahmslos zum Tod.
