Abstract
The determination of configurations of equilibrium in structural mechanics usually leads to the consideration of boundary-value problems. Unfortunately, boundary-value problems cannot generally be solved directly by numerical methods, and therefore the analyst is forced to recast the problem in a manner suitable for handling by a digital computer.
