The present monograph deals with one possibility of influencing severe and protracted states of shock. Sympatho-adrenal activation is inseparable from shock due to any cause and though initially beneficial may be harmful if protracted. The question therefore arises whether tolerance of shock in animals and man can be improved by modifying sympathetic nervous activity.
