The Discovery and Characterization of Bradykinin

  • Chapter
Bradykinin, Kallidin and Kallikrein

Abstract

To pharmacology goes the credit for the discovery of bradykinin this active principle which, for a time, remained a monopoly interest and challenge to pharmacological investigators. In the early 1950s chemical methodology had not advanced to the point where the isolation and characterization of the pure substance would have been possible, and later progress in this respect could be seen to be made almost in step with advances in the techniques of polypeptide chemistry.
