Part of the Die Grundlehren der mathematischen Wissenschaften book series (GL, volume 163)

In this chapter the classical aspects of convex functions will be described. The main topic, however, will be the concept of conjugate functions introduced by Fenchel [1,2]. Conjugate functions will form the basis of the duality theory for convex functions as it will be developed in the subsequent chapter.
