Abstract
In his doctoral thesis in 1906 the Danish economist E. P. Mackeprang discussed the problem of determining demand functions and demand elasticities on the basis of statistical observations. His data consisted of yearly time series of sugar prices and the demand for sugar (i.e., the consumption of sugar) in England between 1824 and 1852.
