Viruses — Living Insecticides

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Current Topics in Microbiology and Immunology ((CT MICROBIOLOGY,volume 42))

Abstract

Excluding himself, one of man’s greatest competitors for food, clothing, and shelter are insects. Man probably first fought the insect in the fertile crescent when he plucked a handful of wild wheat seed, planted it, nursed it, and then harvested it for food. He’s still fighting the same insects on the same crops.
