Abstract
Gougerotin was first isolated as a water soluble, basic antibiotic from culture filtrates of Streptomyces gougerotii, No. 21544 by workers at Takeda Chemical Industries, Ltd., Osaka, Japan (Kanzaki et al., 1962). Gougerotin was found to be a broad spectrum antibiotic of only limited commercial value due to its weak antibiotic activity and toxicity to mammalian systems (Table 1). The I.V. LD60 in mice is 57mg/kg.
