Surface waves and guided waves

Abstract

Although surface waves and guided waves may exist under a wide variety of conditions our main concern will be those generated in the earth by earthquakes or explosions. These waves are of interest to seismologists not only because they form the most prominent features of seismograms but also for their usefulness in determining the structure of the earth’s crust.
