Abstract

The department Publication and Visualisation Environment (PaVE) at the Integrated Publication and Information Systems Institute (IPSI) is currently building a publishing environment for electronic reference works. As an example and in order to derive requirements for this publishing environment we are currently building an electronic prototype of the Dictionary of Art. Its paper version will be launched on the market place as a commercial product by Macmillan Publishers Ltd. in 1995. In addition to the extraction of facts from the texts of the Dictionary of Art and the representation of these facts in a network of information units (semantic network), one of the major tasks in building the prototype is the design of its end-user interface.
