Abstract
The objective of this dissertation is to provide new theoretical as well as empirical insights into the decisive elements of firms’ labour demand through time, by generalizing existing labour demand models derived from theories about decision making under uncertainty. The models will be applied to time series data of the manufacturing sector in the Netherlands and U.K. for blue and white collar employment, using recently developed econometric techniques, in order to examine the empirical applicability of the models.
