Abstract

One particularly important area of a firm’s financial decision making is the management of the firm’s capital. The problem addressed in this paper is the allocation of funds to the production or purchase of the items the firm requires, where such funds can be obtained either through internal means or borrowed from external sources over a multiple period time horizon. The model developed herein considers the objective of profit maximization typically associated with such allocation decisions as well as the minimization of the total funds acquired through borrowing and the maximization of the firm’s net capital position in each of the periods in the planning horizon.
