Zusammenfassung

Die Epithelkörperchen wurden beim Menschen 1880 von Sandström entdeckt. Von ihm stammt auch die Bezeichnung »Nebenschilddrüse« (Shieber U. Ballonger, 1972). Als von Recklinghausen 1891 die Ostitis fibrosa cystica beschrieb, wußte er noch nichts von der Ätiologie dieser Krankheit. Erst der Pathologe Askanazy (1903) vermutete einen Zusammenhang zwischen Epithelkörperchen und den Knochenveränderungen. Wenige Jahre später erkannte Erdheim (1907), daß bei der von Recklinghausenschen Erkrankung die Nebenschilddrüsen vergrößert sind. Er faßte dies jedoch als Folge, nicht als Ursache der Knochenveränderungen auf. Die richtige pathogenetische Verknüpfung stellten 1915 Hlagenhaufer und 1916 Maresch her (Shieber U. Ballinger, 1972; Keminger, 1976).
