Abstract
We shall illustrate the estimation of multiple-output production functions with two different sets of data. The first set consists of Klein’s (1947) U.S. railroad cross-section data for the years 1928 and 1936. The second set is a time series of the years 1929 to 1969 for the U.S. private domestic economy; this set of data is updated from Christensen and Jorgenson (1970) and was also used by Christensen et al. (1973) in a related study. These two sets of data essentially require different interpretations of estimation results, and we shall discuss each data source separately. Section B presents the results for the railroad data, and section C contains the estimation results for the national data.
