Zusammenfassung
Besondere Vorteile, wie Unabhängigkeit vom spekulativen Silberpreis, kleine Bauweise, kurze Schaltwege mit entsprechend einfacheren Antrieben, totale Kapselung, hohe Schaltleistungen usw., haben zur Entwicklung von Vakuumschaltern für die Energietechnik geführt. Neben den Standard-Anforderungen an Kontaktwerkstoffe, wie hohe Abbrandfestigkeit, große Sicherheit gegen Verschweißungen und niedriger Kontaktwiderstand, müssen Kontaktwerkstoffe für Vakuumschalter weitere Voraussetzungen erfüllen. Dazu gehören ein niedriger Abreißstrom, wenn sich ein Wechselstrom seinem Nulldurchgang nähert, ein gutes Löschvermögen mit der Folge einer hohen dielektrischen Festigkeit der Schaltstrecke nach dem Verlöschen des Lichtbogens und eine geringe Gasfreisetzung beim Aufschmelzen des Materials. Die ursprünglich verwendeten Kupferlegierungen mit Wismut-Zusatz wurden inzwischen durch preiswertere Verbundwerkstoffe auf der Basis von Kupfer-Chrom und Kupfer-Wolfram ersetzt, wobei spezielle Additive dem Abreißstrom und der Veschweiß-neigung entgegenwirken.
