Abstract
This study reports revision and complication rates of a cementless total hip system (Alloclassic Variall®, Zimmer TM) in combination with ceramic-on-ceramic bearings (Cerasul®, Zimmer TM) over a mean follow-up period of 10.6 years. Of 224 patients (237 hips), 9 patients (4.02 %) required revision surgery at a mean of 7.9 years. Reasons for revision included trauma (n = 4), noise (n = 3), recurrent instability (n = 1) and aseptic loosening of the stem (n = 1). No aseptic loosening of the cup was encountered, thus confirming the excellent tribological qualities of ceramic bearings at medium-term follow-up.
