Abstract

In recent years, the importance of sustainability has increased in most aspects of human life. From agriculture to industrial production of chemicals, new technologies are developed for environmentally friendly and economic production. Species of the ascomycetous genus Trichoderma contributed to these efforts by providing benefits from plant protection, to enzyme production, to synthesis of bioactive metabolites. Now, with genomes of 7 species sequenced and more than 100 species identified, Trichoderma represents a group of fungi with a plethora of applications. The physiological insights gained from elaborate genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic studies will allow for a deeper understanding of phenotype versus genotype of Trichoderma spp. and fungi in general.
