Abstract
Buttocks are considered a symbol of beauty, and it is the reason why their augmentation is performed more frequently today than before. Autologous fat is the ideal filler for buttock reshaping. It is readily available in most patients, inexpensive, and nonallergenic, and it has the added benefit of diminishing unaesthetic fat deposits in the body by the process of liposuction. It is accepted nowadays that larger amounts of fat can be safely grafted in more extensive areas. The authors discuss fat harvesting and processing, fat injection, postoperative care, and possible complications. Fat transplantation in the buttocks seems to last longer; it has fewer complications and less morbidity than silicone implants and allows great patient satisfaction. Adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) have been shown to be an easily accessible and reproducible cell source with the promise to improve autologous fat transplantation long-term results.
