Abstract
Mostly simple causes like direct trauma, squeeze injuries (e.g. subungual hematoma), sharp or pointed objects, etc. Sometimes a subungual exostosis, especially at the distal phalanx of the big toe, can be a causal factor. Be aware that the foot region can be contaminated very often by bacteria.
