Zusammenfassung
Geburtstraumatische Schäden können je nach Art und geburtshilflichen Gegebenheiten vermeidbar oder unvermeidbar sein. Sie können trotz kompetenter Geburtshilfe auftreten und müssen u. U. in Kauf genommen werden, um andere Schäden, insbesondere akute Sauerstoffmangelzustände zu verhindern bzw. solche Gefährdungen möglichst rasch zu beenden. Die Inzidenz geburtstraumatischer Läsionen ist glücklicherweise in den letzten zwei Dekaden deutlich zurückgegangen.
Der Kinderarzt wird meist unvermittelt mit dem Befund einer geburtstraumatischen Schädigung beim Neugeborenen konfrontiert. Die schockierten Eltern erwarten dann oft eine sofortige erste Wertung. Die Bedeutung eines solchen ersten Gespräches mit den Eltern ist wohl kaum zu überschätzen.
Bei einigen geburtstraumatischen Verletzungen sind rasche Therapieentscheidungen notwendig. Insbesondere in der Behandlung peripherer Nervenläsionen sind in den letzten Jahren wesentliche Fortschritte erzielt worden. Die rechtzeitige Veranlassung chirurgisch-rekonstruktiver Maßnahmen bei bestimmten Läsionen peripherer Nerven liegt in der Verantwortung der behandelnden Kinderärzte.
